I got the ulra s sim today. phone got unlocked for the first time . In the phone>> sim application >> there was option of copy sim and pressed that. After that once I restarted the phone it give the error sim card not valid and the moment i enter the sim with the gevey ultra s the phone gets restarted with error of need activation.

So i had this issue too. I would get an error 21 when restoring from recovery mode and an error 1600 when restoring in DFU. I was trying to upgrade from 4.3.3 to 5.0.1 (iphone 4) and it turned out to be my hosts file. back up the hosts file somewhere and delete everything under the 127.******* local host line and save it. worked like a charm after i did this no error 21. Not sure if this will help you but it helped me. Good Luck.
Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\ and locate “hosts” file.

You can Jailbreak it by Redsn0w but Tethered Jailbreak and you can Unlock it only with Gevey Sim but i prefer that to Update to iOS 5.0.1 with Preserving your Baseband to be able to UnTethered Jailbreak 5.0.1 and Unlock also with Gevey Sim.

What is Tethered Jailbreak :

Tethered jailbreaks are frustrating because they require a computer connection to boot a jailbroken iOS device. The concept of a tethered jailbreak has been around a long time, but essentially it means this: every time your iPhone or iPod touch reboots or the battery dies, you have to connect (tether) your iOS device back to your computer so that the hardware can boot with the aid of the jailbreak application.

What is Untethered jailbreak ?

An untethered jailbreak is the preferred jailbreak because it requires no connection to your computer except for the initial jailbreaking process. You can reboot your iPhone or iPod touch as much as you want without having to tether it to your computer to boot. If the battery dies on a device that has an untethered jailbreak, it’s no big deal you just charge it again and it will boot as usual.
