The size of the iPad 3 is not noticeable different to the iPad 2 the picture below is of the iPad’s twisted, which give the appearance of different sizes.

The image below shows that the glass facia of the iPad 3 is slightly thinner with the aluminium casing slightly thicker. These two factors combine to make the iPad 3 1-1.5mm thicker than the iPad 2. MICGadget has also confirmed that the iPad 3 camera lens hole is “noticeably larger”, this supports previous rumours that the iPad 3 with have an upgraded camera, though it is still not confirmed if it will have the rumoured 8 Megapixel camera.

The iPad 3 is rumoured to be revealed on the 7th March 2012 at an Apple media event, so far all we know is that it is rumoured to have a Retina Display and a upgraded processor, possible an A5X or A6 chip and possibly a 8 Megapixel camera.

We today discovered that Apple published eleven new profiles for various iPhone-operators. These files are compatible with iOS 5.1 and are set for release on March 9. This could indicate that iOS 5.1 will be released around that date, is will be available for the following devices; iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPod Touch 3G/4G, iPad, and iPad 2.

The profiles that have been found by us are intended for operators in Japan, France, Greece, Finland, and Sweden.

iOS 5.0.1 was released on Thursday, November 10th and iOS 5.0 was released on Wednesday, October 12th of last year. Take this rumour for what it is, as we would expect at least one more beta and GM to arrive before the final release. If the March release is correct, maybe it’s to coincide with the debut of the iPad 3?

Mac OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion is expected to be publicly released this summer.

Currently the shortcut to the iPhone’s camera from the lockscreen is to double tap the Home button. The new method reveals the camera icon remains on the lockscreen, and sliding up reveals the camera.

As for the evidence of Japanese support for Siri, the option shows up in Siri’s language settings:

The update by Applenberry states that good news for people with Baseband 4.11.08 is that they’re now in final testing phase  which means that if the test is successful then you’ll hear some good news in a week or two. Although, you should be hopeful but they’re not promising that you’ll definitely get Gevey SIM unlock for 4.11.08. This is what they wrote on their Facebook Page.

Currently, there is no update from iPhone Dev Team or MuscleNerd regarding Baseband 4.11.08 which makes us think that we might not get software Unlock in the form of Ultrasn0w. Sherif Hashim, the Egyptian hacker who also worked on Ultrasn0w told us about a month ago that he’s working on this BB but after that we didn’t get any news.

Wolvy, a moderator on iHackMyi, reports that a new “SetActivationToken” has disabled Siri for most users.

• Previously, you only needed Spire, a host and a certificate and you were away. Now Apple have added a “SetActivationToken” which has disabled Siri for almost everyone on illegitimate devices.
• A temporary (hopefully) workaround of deleting “com.apple.assistant.plist” from the device appears to resolve the issue for now, but will this become another game of cat and mouse for apple, just like in Jailbreaking?

For those experiencing the issue you can use iFile to delete the /var/mobile/Library/Preferences/com.apple.assistant.plist file.

You can change the language I’m using… just go to Siri settings.

Siri doesn’t actually support Japanese yet; however, Apple has promised that additional language support is coming soon.

“In 2012, Siri will support additional languages, including Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Italian, and Spanish.”

Recently, a DoNews report predicted that Siri would begin supporting Mandarin Chinese, Japanese, and Russian languages next month. This slip by Siri indicates that the report may be accurate.

Language Support and Availability

Siri works exclusively on iPhone 4S. Siri understands and can speak the following languages:

• English (United States, United Kingdom, Australia)
• French (France)
• German (Germany)

In 2012, Siri will support additional languages, including Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Italian, and Spanish.

Meijer, a regional big-box retailer in the U.S., has slashed the in-store price of the 16GB iPad 2 with Wi-Fi by $70, even as Apple’s third-generation tablet is expected to hit the market within weeks.

The chain announced the sale in its weekly ad for the week of February 12 – 18, noting that it runs only while supplies last and does not include rain checks or substitutions. A separate listing on the company’s website lists the $429 price as lasting until Feb. 25 and notes that the iPad 2 deal is only available in stores.

The Smart Cover iPad 2 accessory is also on sale for $35, $5 off Apple’s price. In addition, Meijer is offering a free $15 iTunes gift card with the purchase of an 8GB iPod touch for $195 this week.

Meijer is a Michigan-based supermarket chain that has been credited with popularizing the “supercenter” retail concept. The bulk of the company’s stores are in Michigan, though it also has locations in several other surrounding states.

The $70 off sale is one of the steepest discounts for the iPad 2 since the device was released last March. For instance, Best Buy offered $45 off all iPad 2 models last year ahead of the Black Friday retail frenzy. Apple itself offered between $41 and $61 off during its own Black Friday promotion.

Given that recent reports have pegged the first week in March as the likely time frame for the launch of the third-generation iPad, Meijer’s deal could be viewed as an effort to clear out inventory before the new devices arrive.

Apple’s next tablet is widely expected to have a high-resolution Retina Display with double the pixel density as the current model, as well as a significantly faster A6 processor. Some reports have also suggested that Apple could make the jump to 4G with the release of an LTE-capable iPad next month.

They also note that the screw holes on the dock connector and back plate align together.

According to the site, the back plate is slightly thicker; less than 1mm, and equal-sized length and breadth.

This would suggest that Apple at least had Retina Display prototypes built using the Sharp LCD. The company is expected to announce its next generation tablet in the first week of March.

On the computer you want to sync contacts/calendar with select only these items and perform a sync. Now, on the second machine enable Music/Photos/Etc and perform a second sync. You will be warned the media library will be deleted, but as there’s no media this is fine

Because I do most of my music listening at work and my Calendar/Address book are kept in Outlook I have my iPhone setup to sync with my office PC.  When I’m at home however I find I also want to put music/podcasts/videos on my iPhone for the weekend or trips.

Normally it’s only possible to sync media on an iPhone with one computer. If you try to use a second computer you get the warning below that “the iPhone XXX is synced with another iTunes library. Do you want to erase this iPhone and sync with this iTunes library”?

However, I’ve found an easy fix for this. In the instructions below I’ll show how to modify any iTunes Library so it can also be synced with your iPhone. You can then either manually manage your iPhone on a second computer, or sync different data on different machines (E.g. Music at home, Contacts/Calendar at work).

The instructions below use the example of modifying the iTunes library on my home Mac to work with my existing iPhone/PC setup. If your existing library is on a Mac, or both machines are of the same type, then the steps are identical.
Notes

• On the PC you can find your iTunes folder in your “My Music” (XP) or “Music” (Vista) directory. On the Mac it is in your Music directory.
• For the editing part, I recommend UltraEdit on the PC and a combination of TextExit / HexEdit on the Mac. Any hex editor will do, and you only need to edit files on the second machine.
• After completing these steps you will be able to sync your iPhone with both computers, either by normal syncing or choosing one machine to manually manage your music and videos. Unless you also keep your music libraries in sync, I recommend you do not attempt to normal sync the same types of data on both machines.

Backup Your Library

On the machine you want to sync with, backup “iTunes Music Library.xml” and “iTunes Music Library” (Tunes Music Library.itl on PC) to a safe location. These are the files you will be modifying.

1) Find your iTunes Library ID

On the machine your iPhone currently syncs with, open “iTunes Music Library.xml” with a text editor and find the entry between the <string></string> tags, after “Library Persistent ID”. In the example below this is 8B6C633F7DACB74B. Copy this entry exactly to a piece of paper, email, temporary file etc. You can then close this file.

2) Change your Library ID

iTunes stores your library information in two places. An XML file and a binary file. You now need to change the ID in both so they match your other library.

Make sure iTunes is not running.

On the machine you want to sync with open “iTunes Music Library.xml” in a text editor. Again, find the entry between the <string></string> tags after “Library Persistent ID” and copy this entry exactly. This time you can use the clipboard if you wish.

When you have a copy, replace this entry with the one you copied in part 1. Make sure you do not change anything else, and the length of the entry is 16 characters/digits. Save this file and close it.

In the Hex Editor, open “iTunes Music Library” (Tunes Music Library.itl on PC).

Select “Find and Replace” from the Edit menu. Make sure “Hex” matching is selected (not ASCII). In “Find” enter the ID you took a note of in Part 1. In Replace, enter the ID you copied at the start of Part 2. Choose Replace All, there should be one match.

Save this file and close it.

Success!

Start iTunes on the machine you wish to sync with and plug in your iPhone. When you select “Manually manage music and videos” you will no longer be prompted to erase your data, nor will the files on your iPhone be grayed out.

Additional Notes

Previously I’ve found that intentionally corrupting the binary “iTunes Library” file (e.g. replacing it with a text file) would cause iTunes to regenerate it using the XML data. This no longer appears to work for me in iTunes 7.6.1 and the “repaired” file only contains a few songs. This may be because I keep my music on an external drive but I cannot say for sure. Either way, patching the binary file does not take long and removes any chance of later problems.
