there’s an alternate method to do the untethered jailbreak. You can currently use a new jailbreak tool available in Cydia named “Corona” to jailbreak iOS 5.0.1 untethered. Below we’ll show you how.
P0sixninja, the brain member of the Chronic Dev Team, developed a Cydia tweak called “Corona” and uploaded it Cydia for users who already have a tethered jailbreak on iOS 5 or iOS 5.0.1.
You’ll need to do a tethered jailbreak first using previous redsn0w version. You can follow how to do a tethered jailbreak on your A4 device running iOS 5.0.1 or iOS 5.
How To Convert Tethered Jailbreak iOS 5.0.1 to iOS 5.0.1 Untethered Jailbreak with Corona:
STEP 1: Assuming your device is already jailbroken, head to Cydia and leave it till the update is finished.
STEP 2: Once updated, search for “Corona 5.0.1 Untether” under BigBoss repository and you’ll be able to download it for free by hitting the “Install” button on the top right of screen.
Once done, you’ll need to reboot your device and get your untethered jailbreak on iOS 5.0.1.

in case i had semi-tether should i uninstall it before installing corona ? would be any conflict between the two tweaks ?>

Make sure you install mobile substrate BEFORE installing Corona… I don’t know why they aren’t telling people this in the install instructions.

I got this error all day yesterday… I had to do a restore 6 times. What finally got rid of it was restoring, ran the tethered JB again, then ran the new redsn0w untethered. Then went into Cydia and let it update completely and most importantly… I installed Mobile Substrate before installing Corona! That was the problem all along… that and for whatever reason I had to do it on 3G cause it wouldn’t work with wifi for some reason. But wifi itself and everything else is working flawlessly now!
So can I unlock my iPhone 4 from this jailbreak?

No. It’s only for iOS 5.0.1. I recommend you upgrading before 5.0.2 comes out; as then you will have missed your chance. One thing I always tell people before they upgrade is to SAVE their SHSH blobs with TinyUmbrella.
Will it work on 5.0 if I haven’t upgraded to 5.0.1?

Tried it,,,worked first time…MAJOR PROBLEM……I now DON”T have any
bluetooth, WIFI, OR signal. and when I look at my settings, it shows the
serial #, version 5.01, BUT NO firmware,,,,absolutely blank……My
phone is bricked. Put it into restore mode and try a restore from Itunes
and I get a -1 error. Hopefully the next update from Apple will resolve
this…anyone have any ideas???
